Welcome to the ABCs of Action
I’m your host, Erica, and I’ll be posting my thoughts on action movies to demonstrate to the world that women like action movies just as much as men. A lot of people know that, but as made evident on a certain morning radio program recently, not everyone does.
My goal with this site will be to explore action movies using the same 26 criteria, as follows:
Accents |
Bad Guys |
Chases |
Damsels |
Explosives |
Flashbacks |
Guns |
Helicopters |
Improvisation |
Jumping Through Solid Objects |
Kill Count |
Limitations |
Motivation |
Negotiations |
One liners |
Profession |
Quagmire |
Reality/Suspension of Disbelief |
Sidekicks |
Technology |
Unexpected Romance |
Vehicles As Weapons |
Winning |
X-rays, or Maybe You Should See A Doctor |
Yesterday’s Problem Becomes Today’s Problem |
Zone, In The |
My initial list of action movies A-to-Z includes the following, with a review dependent upon me finding a way to watch the movie:
Assassins |
Bad Boys |
Commando |
Die Hard |
Expendables |
Face/Off |
GI Joe |
Hard Target |
Interceptor |
The Jackal |
Killer Elite |
Lethal Weapon |
Machete |
The Negotiator |
On Deadly Ground |
Predator |
The Quest |
Rambo |
Sudden Death |
True Lies |
Under Seige |
Vantage Point |
Wake of Death |
XXX |
Year of the Dragon |
The Zone/Dogfighters |
Obviously if I can’t get my hands on a movie, I’ll have to swap it out. I’ll also take requests!
With this initial list of movies, my goal was to pick movies from a certain timeframe (1980s to current), that mostly fit the lone wolf type of hero, and that also can’t be easily fit into another genre (for example: sci-fi, western, comedy, historical, etc).
As I haven’t yet seen all of these movies–though I’m looking forward to reviewing the classics–not all of the movies I’ve chosen may fit quite well. Regardless, there will be movies, and discussion, and with any luck, some enlightenment!
